Soldier of the Month: March 2018: Meet Robyn

Robyn Kaperak isn’t your typical Backstreet Boys fan in 2018. She doesn’t have a Twitter account and isn’t big on social media, but that doesn’t keep her from keeping up with the latest Backstreet Boys news.

So when it came time to sign up to be the March 2018 Soldier of the Month for the Backstreet Boys Official Fan Club, Robyn knew how to answer the question of the month – if you could add any song to the Las Vegas residency, what would you add and why?

“First of all, I just want to start by saying the residency show is epic and every fangirl's dream as is,” Robyn said. “I would definitely throw in one of the early, EARLY songs like “That’s The Way I Like It” or “I Wanna Be With You.” Both of those songs are bangers.”

The dance moves that the boys performed with the two songs is one of the reason why Robyn is a big fan, but there’s also another reason.

“My favorite Backstreet Boys style of music are their upbeat tunes,” she said. “Both of those songs have a very distinct ’90s funky beat that I love.”

Another song that Robyn would love to see added to the show is a “Black and Blue” favorite – “Everyone.”

“I just think it is a great choice for a song to play live to your fans,” she said. “It’s a slight change from a love song and shows how much they care and appreciate their fans. It’s also upbeat which I think translates well for a Vegas show production.”

To stick with the upbeat songs that Robyn loves, she said that the “Get Another Boyfriend” performance was her favorite part of the Vegas residency.

“I was happily surprised they decided to perform that song,” Robyn said. “I’ve always thought that song was a gem on the ‘Black and Blue’ album. You could tell the crowd was feeling the same and was into the performance.”

Meet Robyn, the March 2018 Soldier of the Month.

Fan Club Profile: https://backstreetboys.com/users/lSnHB3es

Where are you from? Seattle, WA

What do you do for a living? (job, etc.) I work in real estate and volunteer at the Animal Shelter on the weekends.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:  I am huge football (Go Hawks) and basketball fan. When I’m not working, trying new restaurants with friends, or volunteering I am at the beach or playing pick-up basketball at the gym.

How long have you been a BSB fan? Since 1996 when I was 8 years old.

How did you become a fan? I heard them on the radio and really liked a few of their songs, then decided to look them up and saw a picture and I was smitten from that point on.

What is your favorite BSB memory? Going to the Millennium Tour concert in 1999. It was my very first concert experience. I remember feeling euphoric and couldn't believe I was in the same building as the Backstreet Boys. My little fan girl heart was on fire.

What is your favorite BSB song and why? “My Beautiful Woman” from the Never Gone Album. It’s such an underrated song (and album) in my option. You can hear that their voices are maturing and blend together beautifully.

What is your favorite BSB video and why? “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. I mean, it’s just so iconic, how could I not pick it? From the costumes, to the set design, to the dancing…It’s simply the best.

Who is your favorite Backstreet Boy and why? Ah, this a tough one. Obviously, I adore them all individually. But over my years as a fan, the two I seemed to gravitate toward the most were Brian and AJ. I obviously thought Brian was cute and has a beautiful voice. And with AJ, I just thought he was the coolest. He was so unique and I loved that he wore shades indoors with funky hats. Also, he was the sweetest when I met him at the meet and greet last year. He was very warm and engaging. He accidentally stepped on my toes and apologized multiple times even after I said I was fine. That made him all the more endearing.

How has BSB impacted your life? There is not a band out there that I have loved more than the Backstreet Boys. I swam competitively for most of my youth. Whenever I was the top seed going into the finals, I had the opportunity to pick the walk-up song to the starting blocks. I always without fail picked “Larger Than Life” because it got me in the zone for the race. I turned my whole family into Backstreet Boys fans over the years. My younger brother frequently wins at trivia night with his buddies because they are always surprised how much he knows about 90’s music, especially BSB. He still thanks me for that.

What is your favorite thing about being a BSB fan? I am thrilled that they are all together again (yay Kevin!) after all these years, they're still performing, planning new music, and are so wonderful to their fans. Their residency is just the cherry on top. I’m so excited they extended their residency so I have the opportunity to see them again. :)

How many times have you seen the Vegas show and are you going back this year? I have seen it once so far. I went with a group of my friends for my birthday last June. I would love to be able to make it back sometime this year. *fingers crossed*

What one song would you take out of the Vegas show? “Show me the Meaning of Being Lonely” . I know this is one of their big hits and I do like the song, but for me, at a lively concert with the bright lights and fancy costumes, it just wasn't the right fit.
